Joint Pastoral and Finance Council Meeting - December 2015
The combined Pastoral and Finance Councils met at
7:20PM in the Severius Blank Education Building on 12/15/2015 after finger foods were provided.
Those present include Mike and Suzan Tugman, Margie and Dave Poole, Michael Richter, Greg Leonard, Larry McMahill, Susie Nix, Linda Gibson, Richard Pfeiffer, Steven and Sheri Booker and Father Khoi Tran.
Regarding the envelope system: We are currently in the process of changing our envelopes to Our Sunday Visitor. The designs will follow the liturgical A, B and C cycles. The stewardship amounts listed on the envelopes have been updated to reflect the typical contribution suggestions around the Diocese. The children’s envelopes continue to be implemented to show contributions of time, talent and treasure.
There were five people interviewed for the Director of Religious Education position. The search committee will meet on 12-16-2015 at 5:30 in the evening to determine the person for the position.
Father Khoi is working with the Diocese on securing a grant for rural parishes from the All Things Possible diocesan campaign (for the renovation of our parish hall). It is important that we create a master facility plan. In January, we will need to recruit 2 to 3 members of the parish council and the same number from the finance committee to be on the building committee. Included in the master facility plan will be the architectural design of the renovated hall, bidding process and the maintenance on our current buildings.
Our new building committee will build a list of the bare minimum upgrades as well as a plan for additional upgrades after listening to the feedbacks from parishioners.
We plan to apply for the Annual Diocesan Appeal grant to pay for the benefits for the DRE for 3 years at around $13,200 per year. We will be purchasing the health care package from for the DRE from the Diocese.
The church budget is projected to be done by April of 2016. We plan to have a joint meeting in February so that we can stay ahead of the game and be ready to apply for any and all available grants.
At this time, we have $89,000 in total savings, but Father Khoi will be adding $6,000. His goal was to have $100,000 by the end of the year so we will be short around $4,000. He has been putting back around $1,500 to $6,000 each month due to increased donations. He is trying to be prudent with the money.
The checking account is around $26,000. We do keep the Christmas collection here at the church. Possibly the Easter or Divine Mercy collection will go to the diocese.
The savings account for the renovation of the hall has accumulated $28,027.00, plus an additional $8,000 from All Things Possible Campaign. The total 36,000+ and is non-taxable by the Diocese.
Since July 1, the beginning of our fiscal year, we have brought in around $78,000 through stewardship.
The Diocese requires all parish property rentals (whether we charge the individual party or not) to have rental agreements, as well as the 1-day liability insurance - and police presence if liquor is served.
Beginning of 2016, the Finance Council members will receive a monthly profit and loss statement and account summary each month.
